Hurd, in his 2nd term, represents the vast 23rd district of Texas, which stretches between El Paso and San Antonio. He sits on the Homeland Security and Oversight and Reform Committees and is a member of the Main Street Partnership. Hurd is by far the most liberal member of the Texas Republican delegation, with an appalling 47% legislative score. A fairly reliable social conservative, he has cast one disastrous vote after another for Democratic budget compromises, unfunded disaster relief, and against virtually every fiscal reform proposed by House conservatives. While his district is just R+1, his legislative score shows that Hurd isn’t even trying to be conservative. The 23rd can and must do better and soon.
