Darrell Issa, like most committee chairmen, voted with leadership on some issues that violated conservative principles.  His votes for the debt ceiling, minibus, omnibus, and those against cutting spending to pre-Pelosi era levels and fulfilling the $100 billion spending cut promise were enough to give him a negative index score, given that he represents a conservative part of the state.  However, his 52.5 legislative score is actually better than most chairmen and he has supported a number of other conservative initiatives.

Most importantly, Issa is one of those members whom no scorecard can really do him justice.  As Chairmen of the House Government Oversight Committee, Issa has led the charge to shed light on this rouge administration that has a penchant for promulgating laws via administrative fiat.  He showed leadership by dragging party leaders kicking and screaming into a confrontation with Eric Holder over Fast and Furious.  Obviously, none of these actions are reflected in a voting record.

Again, we stand by the score based on the major spending votes.  However, it is for this reason why we encourage activists to read our full writeup and examine the broad view of each member.
