Smith has represented Missouri’s 8th since winning a special election in July 2013. One of the youngest members of Congress, Smith sits on Ways and Means and is a member of the Republican Study Committee. He may be young, but his voting record marks him as easily the state’s most conservative representative with a 93% Heritage Action rating. He has cast a handful of votes in favor of big-government spending which is what puts him just inside our Hall of Shame, but his overall record over his five-year tenure has fairly good. If Smith eliminates some bad votes, he clearly becomes the standard for Missouri Members.
